Practice Makes Perfect (video)

Both car enthusiasts with a desire to learn the art of drifting, my husband, Enoka, and I acquired a 1989 240sx coupe about two months ago.  The completely primered exterior, rust spots here and there, and stock motor didn't phase us.  I mean, we WERE asking the car gods for a drift missile to practice on.  You can't exactly slide around in a nice car that you've put your heart and soul + hours and dollas into.  Not until you're pro, that is.  But heck, even the pros slam into walls every once in a while!  The difference is they're sponsored and have the money and resources to fix up their drift cars.  We Average Joes do not.

Let me just give you a background of Maui's drift scene.  We do not have any tracks.  We do have a drag strip, Maui Raceway Park, but it's only open one weekend a month.  We do have tons of curvy, mountain roads that are perfect for drifting (...if the sheer drops off of ocean cliffs and/or rainforest gulches and valleys doesn't scare you)!  So for amateur drifting practice, we do it in the cane fields.  Yes, long and empty service roads tucked away in grass fields higher than any human being.

Here's a good view of Enoka's personal touches.  +5hp
We try to take the 240 out almost every weekend.  But lately the weather has been really stormy.  Plus we were lacking the funds needed for supplies.  And we really needed new tires after Enoka ate up this pair (see photo below) from the last session.

Burnin' rubba.
This past Sunday, the Brap Mobile finally got to see some sun, breathe fresh air, and burn rubber.  I also thought I'd really test out the video function on my camera.  I'm not a film girl; typically I just snap photos the entire day.  So this footage is a real treat!

Now without further adieu, here's my quick drift vid.

Slide on, folks.
