I've discovered that when I am talking on the phone, waiting for an appointment, or just plain bored with nothing else to do...I don't doodle, I
write.

Scan of handwritten typography (01/2014) |
This started one day because I forgot my work laptop at home. And what am I supposed to do in a school health room with no sick kids and just some paper and a TUL needlepoint gel pen?

I've always had an interest in typography. I download all my computer fonts from
dafont.com because they have a huge selection AND I can get 'em for free. (No, this is not a sponsored post. I'm simply recommending what I believe to be a good resource.) I could honestly spend hours on that website looking at each and every text type. But I really wish I had the time, patience, and resources to create my own fonts on the computer.

So on this day I did it old school: pen, paper, and my own two hands. It definitely gave my brain a workout. Not only did I employ the right side of my brain for creativity and ideas, but the left side was needed to plan out spacing, proportion, and the fact that if I messed up I couldn't use
CTRL+Z to undo it. Let me remind you again that I was using a
black pen, not pencil, and
orange paper, not white (no chance for Wite-Out).
If you're wondering just what the hell I was writing, a majority of them are friends' social media usernames, businesses, musical personae, or alter-egos (as I like to consider them).
Of course this was all made for fun out of boredom. So please don't be too harsh on my doodling/handwriting skills.
